Come On, Don't Stop Now!

This is sort of a follow up to yesterday’s blog. Instead of talking mostly about people who are not currently working out, I was talking about those that have gotten it together a little bit. (If you’re still struggling to get started, don’t lose faith. Check out www.thenewfitu.com)!

However, as I suggested yesterday, if you didn’t work out yet, try to do a little bit of a workout. That was last night, so if you didn’t do that, then today is important! And that is why I decided to write this. You don’t want to have 2 days in a row with no workout. Even if you only do a little something, that will keep you in the right mindset. I should have said first, do more than just a little if you can, but if you’re really busy, or tired, or feeling overloaded, just a little bit of yoga, a few pushups and/or situps, a few sets of cord training will go a long way to keeping it going. As I said yesterday, if you don’t work out, the tendency is to not eat right. Believe me, I know. Then, if yo don’t eat right, the tendency will be to not workout again tomorrow. See where I’m going with this. It’s so very important to do a little when you can’t do your normal workout. And if that’s all you can do, look at it like a variance in the routine. It could actually be a positive thing, provided you don’t make this a pattern, and then possibly fizzle out all together.

So, if you can only do a little bit today, look at it as a positve thing, but, then, make a commitment to do a really good workout tomorrow. If you follow this rule everytime, then you’re sure to keep it going. Bye for now. Be healthy, safe , and happy.

Let's Keep Up the Good Work!

Well, I usually speak alot about those who are struggling to even get started with any type of exercise program. I sort of apologize for this. Sort of, because I don’t like to be a doomsayer, but, it’s just the facts. Many, many people are out of shape. However, tonight, I want to speak to those who have gotten it going a bit. Whether you’ve been working out for a week, or a few months, I want to say, Great Job!

The trick (and it’s really no trick), is to keep it going. So, if you haven’t worked out today, either do some form of quick workout (just some situps and pushups or light dumbell work), or make sure to do something tomorrow! If you’ve only in the past few months or less, gotten back into an exercise routine, then, you definitely don’t want to let more than 1 day go by without doing something. And, you also, definitely want to make sure that any day you don’t exercise, you eat really well. You don’t want to subconsciously send out any bad vibes to your brain. That’s a big no, no. For more ideas, support, whatever you might need, check out my site! You can also follow me on twitter. And, once again, way to go. You’ve turned it around, now you just want to keep it going. Bye for now. Be healthy, safe, and happy.

If nothing else, you've got to stop doing this!

Sorry for not writing much the past few days. Weekends are just normally very busy for me, and this past weekend was just extra loaded with family responsibilities and the like. Anyway, it’s sort of late, and I’m tired, so I’ll just get right down to it. I have a website that I hope you’ll go to, (thenewfitu.com), and there you’ll find lots of great stuff to help you on your journey to getting fit, and taking good care of yourself, mentally, physically, and spiritually. However, I know many of you just can’t seem to get started. It’s a fact. It’s also a fact that many people start working out, and eating right, then they don’t keep it up. Usually the first to go is the working out. Life get’s really busy, and we just don’t seem to be able to squeeze it in anymore. Then, after a short while, if we’re not working out, we, probably sub or unconsciously, begin to not eat as well. The 2 really do go hand in hand. If we’re working out, it just doesn’t make sense to not eat well.

All of this is true. Believe me, I know. I’ve been on both sides of this fence. And for a long time, luckily, I’ve had the drive and passion to be on the good side for a good part of my life. But given that many, many people do not take great care of themselves, and many of those do make efforts from time to time to get in better shape, but fall by the wayside, I must make this point. Whether you workout or don’t. Or, whether you sometimes workout, and then stop- there’s truly 1 thing that must stop. (Sorry, I usually don’t tell people what they should do. It sort of lends itself to people wanting to rebel). The Fast Food Must Go! The fast food has to stop. I’m telling you, that just cutting this out, will make you feel so much better. I actually believe that if you’re in really bad shape, this means that you haven’t worked out in a while, and you eat alot of nasty fast food. Eating that crap has such a bad affect; physically, mentally, and emotionally. Believe me, I know. For a while I was working as a courier, and I worked alot. I was always on the go, and didn’t get alot of exercise cause I was always sitting in the car, driving around. When I lost that job, I instantly stopped eating fast food, and all of a sudden, I began to feel better. All of a sudden, I began to believe that maybe I could get back in good shape. Physical conditioning, as with many things, is as much mental, as it is physical.

So, please, please, please, treat yourself better than that. Give yourself a chance to move to the other side of that fence to the active and healthy. For more info, check out my site, and follow me on twitter. Bye for now. Be healthy, safe, and happy.

If You're Getting in Shape, Work on the Mind & Spirit Too

Sometimes we get narrow-minded in our focus. If you haven’t worked out much in recent months or years, you may become really excited if you find yourself being able to stick to some sort of a routine. And don’t get me wrong, if you are, that is wonderful. Kudos to you my friend, for sure! It’s just that it has been my experience that I need to take care of my body, mind, and spirit. I need to have a balance. I don’t like to concentrate on just 1, or 2.

If I get into working out steadily, like I said, that is a wonderful thing. Invariably though, life’s struggles, pressures, obligations, whatever you want to call it, begin to call my name. At first they are a faint whisper, and I sort of ignore them because like now, I’ve recently been able to ride my bicycle outside again. I’m really enjoying it. It’s all new again. However, with time, all of life’s other responsibilities will keep coming. My point here is this. You must have heard by now how much of a killer stress is. Well, stress can also kill the party of just enjoying working out. That’s because I might not be taking care of the mental and spiritual aspects of my life. They are very important, and with a proper balance, I have been able to maintain an overall healthy lifestyle. If, or should I say when life comes knocking at my door, if I’ve meditated (and I usually have) that day, I find that I can handle the situation without the stress. If I don’t have the stress, my body and my mind, don’t break down.

I’m not saying this is for everybody. It’s just has worked wonders for me. Actually, yoga tends to have alot of the same affects for me. For more on these, and any health, fitness, or nutrition related topics, please visit my site! Also, you can follow me on Twitter!. Bye for now. Be healthy, safe, and happy.

Progress, Not Perfection

Why are people always in a rush to get somewhere? It’s like the destination is the only thing that matters. I guess if you were a courier (I actually used to be), then getting to your destination is very important. However, and I experienced this when I did that job, I was always rushing to get to my destination, so that I could get back and pick up another job. Wow, I don’t miss that rat race for a minute.

I guess we are sort of programmed in this society that results are what counts, therefore, if we get to a destination, or a goal if you will, then we have succeeded. We have won. We have conquered. There are just a few flaws in this thinking, especially when it comes to working out, and especially if you’re not in very good shape to start out with.

The problems are that we tend to focus only on the finish line. When we do this, we lose sight of too many important things. We might forget to warm up properly. We might try to put too much weight on the barbell, or try to run way too far when we’ve only reached a half a mile up to this point. It’s great to have goals, but they should be realistic goals, and if you’re inexperienced in something, then you should take time to gain information that will help you to figure out what the best course of action is. For lots of great information, see my site! There’s also something fantastic that we miss if all we see is the end of the line. We miss everything else that happens along the way! And I mean everything. If we learn to enjoy ourselves in the moment, and just appreciate the fact that we’re working out, and trying, then maybe we will stick with it longer. Bye for now. Be healthy, safe, and happy.

Are You Still Waiting For the Weather To Get Better

Sorry if this sounds a bit like yesterday’s blog, but I thought it was appropriate, given the extended rainy weather we are having in the northeast. I learned a long time ago, not to put all my eggs into 1 basket, for anything. And this especially applies to the things that are very important to me. And since health, fitness and nutrition are just about as high a priority as anything for me, I need to make sure I do what’s necessary to make it happen.

I guess what I’m trying to say, is that I don’t rely on one form of exercise to keep me in shape. Now, if you haven’t worked out in a while, or ever, you probably wouldn’t be willing to spend alot of money on some really nice indoor workout equipment. For some ideas of other easy indoor exercises you can do, visit my site! What I will suggest is that you seriously consider spending the money on some type of indoor equipment, someday. I’m truly not trying to make money off of you here. I don’t even have that much of the big equipment on my site yet. I’m just saying working out is that important to me, so I would make sure that I would have the means to workout, no matter what. If you’re not of that mindset yet, hopefully as you workout more and more, you will be bitten by the bug. If you’ve been in shape before, you know what I’m talking about. The adrenalin and energy that you feel when you have a good workout is irreplaceable. Here’s to hoping you experience this feeling someday. Bye for now. Be healthy, safe, and happy.

Don't Let the Weather Get You Down

It’s really hard to get in shape. It can be just as difficult to stay in shape, especially if you don’t workout regularly. If you’re prone to not staying in shape once you get it going a bit, think back, did you do something to stay a little bit active, every day? I’m not saying if you start lifting weights, to do that everyday. I’m also not saying that if you get back into riding your bicycle, that you should do it everyday. I was just able to get back into riding my bicycle. Winter weather, and some minor back surgery, had me wait a bit longer to start riding outdoors, than I had planned. Then, last week, I got about 4 or 5 rides in, and this week, it’s supposed to rain all week. If I don’t find something else to do during this down time, I’m liable to lose my desire all together, not to mention, the level of fitness that I’ve achieved. It’s just our nature, especially if we we don’t have a history of keeping in shape.

There’s a way to avoid this type of scenario. If we involve ourselves with a variety of types of exercises, we are more likely to keep active and fit. This would also help us to keep it going, even if the weather is bad. I’m sure many people here in the northeast are feeling a bit down right now because of all the rain, especially if you recently started an exercise routine that involved doing things outside. This is the excuse/reason, that many people use to not workout during the cold winter months. Of course it might not feel the same to do some kind of indoor workout. If you need some ideas, visit my site. The best thing to do is try to look at the big picture. Let’s say that you kept in good shape for the next 10 years. Let’s also say that your main way, and favorite way of staying in shape, is riding your bicycle. I’m using this example because it’s my favorite way. There would have to be a time in those 10 years that you just might not feel like getting on the bike to ride. There are days that it will seem like a workout, and not something you really enjoy. Well, if you find something else to do (I actually suggest a few different other forms of exercise), then you could use these when the weather isn’t cooperating, and it will help keep the excitement going for the primary way that you workout. Again, for more info, check out my website, and you can also follow me on Twitter. Bye for now. Be healthy, safe, and happy.
